Notice to Members
Dressage South Africa, as the National Discipline Association has noticed that there may be some confusion amongst dressage members regarding the process and functions of the current elections taking place in the Provinces. We thought that we would explain more of the process. The provincial elections are there to elect the new provincial committees, as requested by the so-called “SASCOC process”, and to adopt new constitutions which will govern the way that those committees run in the future. This does not however mean that the elections happen in a vacuum… the Provincial AGMs and elections happen in accordance with the existing constitution, which is the current Dressage Constitution. This constitution is available on the DSA website for anyone to view, and we encourage everyone to be familiar with the terms thereof. Once the new provincial committees are elected, then those committees will, as a priority, draft new provincial constitutions and get them adopted.
So if members of clubs, or clubs, feel that they should have seen a constitution before these elections, the solution is to view the current dressage constitution freely available on the dressage website. There are templates of draft provincial constitutions available for consideration at the relevant AGM’s but any new constitutions will be drafted and adopted for the provinces by these newly elected committees.
Once the provinces are fully functional, then the Dressage South Africa national committee will be up for election. This will be in the first quarter of 2016, and we will keep you posted about that process as well.
If you have any queries, please address them to [email protected], and we will endeavour to answer all in writing as soon as possible.
